Keralapals.com-22-06-06: Keerthi Chakra is one of the biggest honors given to an Indian soldier, second only to Paramveer Chakra. The film ‘Keerthi Chakra’ is an adaptation of a true story about the brotherly relationship between Major Ravi and Halvidar Anil Kumar. The movie is written and director by Major Ravi himself.
Major Ravi is not alien to films. He was friends with Priyadarshan and started out by assisting him in ‘Kalapani’. Later he also assisted in various Hindi projects which required war sequences and also directed some ads. But the film that made him famous is ‘Punarjani’, him first directorial venture starring Mohanlal’s son Pranav. Pranav got State award for best child artist for it. ‘Keerthi Chakra’ is his dream project and an expensive one at that. Major Ravi is a war hero who received Keerthi Chakra for killing seven terrorists. He was also popular for killing Sivarasan- one of the main convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
‘Keerthi Chakra’ is produced by R.B Choudary under Super Good Films banner. Although it is a war movie, the highlight is on the relationships, and the hardships that the soldiers go through. It is a big budget film. Film starts off with a widow of a soldier and the entire story is told in a flashback and in the end comes back to the widow. The film will also be dubbed to Tamil. Mohanlal had to go through a severe exercise regime to get in shape for the character.
‘Keerthi Chakra’ was shot extensively in Kashmir and it is only the second film to do so, first being ‘Nair Sabh’. The locations, guns and even the soldiers are original. This is the first time so many real B.S.F and C.R.P.F soldiers participated for a film. It was mostly shot inside C.R.P.F camp in Srinagar and it is the first time any film is shot there. All thanks to Major Ravi’s influence in the military camp. Climax was shot at Pichilora, where terrorist attacks occur regularly. Mohanlal and others were literally living on the edge, as an attack could happen any moment. Some part of the film was shot at Pollachi and Palakkad.
Apart from Mohanlal who plays Major Mahadevan, Tamil actor Jeeva will also play an important role that of Halvidar Jaykumar in ‘Keerthi Chakra’. The film is about the relationship between the two. Jeeva is producer R.B Choudary’s son. At first Mohanlal’s character was named Major Javed Hussien. Another important character is played by Biju Menon, as C.R.P.F commanding officer. Baby Sanusha plays a Kashmiri girl. Cochin Haneefa is Krishnan Nair, a man who runs a stationary store inside the military camp.
Gopika plays Jeeva’s wife and Lakshmi Gopalaswami is Mohanlal’s wife in ‘Keerthi Chakra’, earlier Mamtha Mohandas was suppose to do the role. Reema Sen also will appear in a guest role, as Reema Sen herself, in a dream song sequence. Other actors include Shammi Thilakan, Biju Ezhupunna, Santosh Jogi, Kiran Raj etc. Gireesh Puthencheri pens the songs and music is by Joshua Shridar.
Camera is by ‘Aalavanthan’ fame Thiru. Production executive is Roshan Chitoor, also helped by Kannan Pattambi, Major Ravi’s younger brother. ‘Keerthi Chakra’ is scheduled to release on the second week of July.
