Anwar Rasheed who directed ‘Rajamanikyam’, one of the biggest hits of all time, has started his work on his next ambitious film, starring Mohanlal. The director promises that ‘Chota Mumbai’ will be a much bigger entertainer than ‘Rajamanikyam’, filled with humor and action.

Most interesting thing about this film is the appearances of the cast. Mohanlal, Jagathy Sreekumar, Siddique and Bijukuttan— all have different getups; take one look at them, and you know non-stop comedy is in store for you.

Although he had been around for some time, this is the first time Benny P Nayarambalam is writing a script for Mohanlal, as he was waiting for the right script to come along. Maniyanpilla Raju, who is a close friend of Mohanlal, is producing the film.

It is the story of five-member rowdy gang ‘Chota Mumbai’ with a devil-may-care attitude towards life. Their main hobby is sitting around doing nothing. The gang consists of Vasco da Gamma (Mohanlal) who is the gang leader, fondly called ‘thala’ by others. His father Pathrose Aashan (Sai Kumar), a wrestler, wanted him to grow into a respected person, but he turned out to be just the opposite. Others in the gang include Rowdy Basheer (Jagathy), Chandrappan (Siddique), Thommichan (Indrajith), Sainu (Manikuttan), Susheel (Bijukuttan). Bhavana is playing the character Latha, an auto-driver in the film. After a long time Kalabhavan Mani plays villain in the film. There is an interesting cameo done by soft-porn queen Shakeela. She had sworn never to do Malayalam movies again but promptly agreed to this Mohanlal film.

The film, which planned as a Vishu release, is shot completely at Fort Kochi and Mattancheri.
