The Cyber Society of India (CySi), a
set-up for netizens in the city, has taken up the task
of assisting Internet cafes and web publishers in
checking cyber crime.
It will help comply with the provisions of IT Act 2000
through the CyLawCom Audit and the Certification
programme, announced N.A. Vijayashankar, secretary of
CySi, at a press meet here Thursday.
"Trained cyber law auditors would undertake
assessment of Internet cafes, advise their owners on how
to comply with existing laws of the land and upon
complying with certain standards expected of them, such
cafes would be endorsed by CySi, as Certified E-Bridge
Centre," Vijayashankar said.
"If such a system is adopted widely in Tamil Nadu,
we may not need any legislation," Vijayashankar
said adding voluntary compliance was the best way to
check crimes through cyber cafes.
The CySi secretary said that a similar type of
certification programme would also be undertaken for web
publishers, bloggers and e-groups.
